With work winding down on a major Niagara County project, Kissling Interests is hardly taking a breather. Besides the plannedapartments atop 298 Main Street, the company will be starting projects on W. Huron and also on North Street.
Renovation work on the former Remington Rand complex overlooking the Erie Canal in North Tonawanda is nearing completion. Remington Lofts on the Canal features 79 apartment units and commercial space. The final lofts in the $25 million project will be done by the end of February.
There has been steady demand for the luxury loft units that start at $1,500/month.
"We're leasing them as soon as we're completing them," says Kissling's Executive Vice President Scott LaCasse.
Remington Tavern, a nearly 10,000 sq.ft. restaurant and oyster bar, will be completed in April. Tempo's Paul Jenkins and Hutch's Mark Hutchinson are partners on the restaurant that will occupy a 1 ½ story building along the canal.
Kissling intends on staying busy. Renovation work is underway at the company's Ambassador apartment building located at 175 North Street. The circa-1930, eight-story complex is getting a top-to-bottom renovation.
Work will be starting soon at another North Street property, the Victorian mansion at 249 North Street that Kissling has owned since July 2010 (above). After completing some minor exterior repair work and small additions to the rear since it was purchased, a full-scale renovation will begin by March.
The charming, circa-1877 George L. Williams mansion contains 9,300 sq.ft. and eight apartments. Tomasso Briatico is project architect.
At the same time in the West Village, Kissling will be starting work to convert the long-vacant Lake Hotel at 201 W. Huron Street into eight apartments (above). Seven of the apartments will be two-bedroom, two bath units averaging around 1,000 sq.ft. The eighth unit is a one-bedroom, one bath handicapped adaptable unit on the first floor.
Kissling has retained architecture, engineering and interior design firm Carmina Wood Morris to prepare the reuse plan (below). The exterior of the building will be fully restored.
General contractor Peyton Barlow will be working on both the 249 North Street and Lake Hotel renovation projects.
Kissling isn't stopping there. When asked about what's coming next, LaCasse says the company "has a couple of projects lined up" but obvious renovation candidates are becoming scarce.
"We are actively looking for other projects. There are a lot of others looking too."
