With the freezing cold temperatures we’ve been dealing with lately and the crazy amounts of snow we’re often known to get here in Buffalo, it certainly helps to consider those factors when looking for a new apartment. Sure, you’ll want to review the overall situation with any potential living space and make sure it’s the right fit for you, but here are a few other things to look for given the extreme nature of our Buffalo winters:
Finding a property or apartment that offers off-street or covered parking will certainly make your life a lot easier when there’s 4 feet of snow on the ground. If you can get indoor parking that’s heated, all the better. Look for a living situation that offers parking or garage options, even if they’re slightly more expensive. It’ll be worth it when you’re not digging your car out of a snow bank.
Heating Bill Included
When the temperature hits -5ºF every day for 2 weeks, you may be happy to know that your heating bill is included in your rent cost. Gas and electric bills are a serious cost consideration when looking for a potential new apartment, so don’t forget to ask how the cost of utilities work when you tour a facility.
If you’re looking for somewhere within walking distance of some of your favorite spots, you might want to look for the closest place possible so that you can still get around during the cold winter months. There will probably be days where you won’t even want to go outside at all, but on those sunny 32-degree days that you want to get out and break the cabin fever, it helps to be in close proximity to some of Buffalo’s hot spots.
